Leith, Edinburgh
Leith
Now part of Edinburgh, Leith is the historic port district on the north side of the city, where the Water of Leith meets the sea. It served as Scotland's main trading port for centuries and was officially incorporated into Edinburgh in 1920.
Originally names Inverlet in early records (around 1128) Leith has a strong cultural scene with local festivals such as Leith Festival, LeithLate and Leith Jazz & Blues. It was ranked as one of the "coolest neighbourhoods in the world" by Time Out and still maintains an independent, creative spirit with art spaces, music venues, boutiques and cafes.
